Review on Cobalt Aquatics 26505 Internal Filter by Brandi Mclaurin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for Betta fish!

I have half a dozen betta tanks and have tried many filters over the years. Many filters require special modifications to calm stagnant water-loving Bettas, but the Cobalt ClearVue is the easiest to modify, quietest, and most durable (unfortunately, the same can't be said of their heaters, but that's another story). Currently this ClearVue Mini 20 filter is used in various small 5-10 gallon aquariums and even some 8 gallon bowls (the filter gets wedged between the rocks and the bowl wall as the suction cups won't stick to the curved surface ). . The current is too strong, you can easily position the filter to flow into the aquarium wall or aquarium decoration/plants and divert the current. You can ALSO add extra filter material to the canister to slow the flow. I never replaced the sponge that came with it, just rinsed it out every time I cleaned it and then added a small piece of fresh polyfilter. I have several biomedia at the bottom of the aquarium as well as porous rocks for good bacteria to live in. Compared to outboards and air filters, the Cobalt is much quieter (you can barely hear it) and mine has lasted for years with monthly impeller cleanings. In fact, I'm buying another to replace the Aqueon "Quietflow" internal filter that came with my 6 gallon filter because it was getting annoyingly noisy. Buy it while it's in stock, don't buy the overpriced replacement canisters/sponges that Cobalt sells and instead use bulk filter materials/sponges/polyfilters as needed to save some greenery.
