This isn't a network storage device you've ever seen. Don't confuse it with a standard NAS device. There is a clear problem with these devices that WD seems to have engineered for them for some reason. The device must be connected to the internet to function. That might seem reasonable, but there's no way to use it locally without internet access. As I understand it, this is a "cloud" device. I understand. However, it would be very easy to either enable the IP address interface for advanced users, or when connected locally, show a simple option to disable Internet access. You don't have a single option - given that these types of devices are notorious for being hacked - the option to disable internet access at will should have been enabled in my opinion. For example, if you're using this to stream movies, family photos, etc., and a security vulnerability is released tomorrow, meaning your device is compromised, your only option is to turn it off. I really don't understand why they give you the option like other devices they make and sell.
