I wasn't sure about the size but went with the small size instead of the usual betta and mini size. FYI small is larger than the other two. It's not too big, it looks great and the betta loves it. If you use this in a 7 gallon aquarium it works great. I had to sand down a few sharp edges but it only took a few minutes, no big deal. Always be aware of sharp edges on objects that come into contact with aquarium fish, regardless of their size. Will buy a few more. If you have a small aquarium, I would go with the floating stem of the original rooster. It works great in my aquarium, I will be buying more floating small stems. I just bought another one for my paradise fish
