Review on YI Security Surveillance Monitor Android by Jay Matlock

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Bought to be on the safe side but don't feel safe. Data protection does not mean privacy.

I have purchased 4 of these units over the course of a few months and have generally been pleased with the picture quality and monitoring capabilities. Then, in the fall, I received a data protection update. I read it and realized that by using the app you are giving the company a shopping cart form to use your data in any way they want. I did not accept the agreement. Left the camera connected but not using the application that controls it. While I didn't agree with the policy, I discovered yesterday that the Yi app has used 552MB of mobile data since the end of August. I haven't uploaded any pictures in months. I force quit the app and disable all my cameras. Seems to be too many permissions. They can be obtained and passed on to third parties. What information - see some below? They find they can collect tons, including your Wi-Fi name and password. They can delete your account, but they have language that says they can keep your information - forever. I think most people buy them for more security, but these cameras don't seem to increase data/personal security. ].Starts with "We collect some personally identifiable information from you, including your full name, username, email address, and a password of your choosing. When you interact with the Services, we also receive and store certain additional types of information. which generally do not identify you directly. For example, we automatically receive and store information in our server logs from your browser or device, including your IP address, browser type and language, referring/exit pages and URLs, other browser history, device type, WIFI Network information (including name and password), platform type, number of clicks, landing pages, cookie information, pages you requested and viewed, time spent on specific pages, and food and time. and it gets worse from there.
