When I first used this otherwise well-made tool, it was obvious that the knob that secures the depth sensor was difficult to set "just right" with it the sensor doesn't move when i fixed it for depth. I added a 10mm stainless steel washer between the handle and the probe and that solved the problem (the washer fits snugly in the groove that the probe slides into). I can now adjust the knob to allow the sonde to slide easily through the depth and then tighten the knob a little to keep the sonde within the depth setting. A 17 cent fix I would recommend you do. PS (The manual doesn't mention that the sliding blocks can be fixed in width by slightly tightening the screws on the bottom).
