Review on πŸ”Œ Effortless Operation with WESTEK Indoor Wireless Outlet! by Charles Collier

Works GREAT with multiple lights in the same room, but good luck getting the channel you want!

We recently moved into a rented house that has no overhead lighting in the main living room of the house. It has many large bay windows that let in a lot of light during the day, and at night it turns into a real cave. If it wasn't for rent I would have hooked up the ceiling for overhead lighting, but for now I just put lamps in literally every corner of the room. However, it's very difficult to turn them all on and off, so I bought them in hopes of reducing the legwork required to achieve 'light' in this room at night. To do that, I had to have them all on the same channel. This turned out to be the hardest part. As noted in the description, random channels are sent unless otherwise requested. I started by ordering two and asking for the same channel. When they arrived I received an E channel and an F channel. I have arranged for an exchange and expressly asked for an F-channel to be sent in the return slip. When it arrived it was a G. *sigh* So I ordered a fourth and asked for another F and when it arrived it was an E. Luckily I haven't returned it yet, returned none of the originals and FINALLY at least one Couple had the same channel so I tried them and they work great! *A NOTICE. If you use multiple of these lights in your home and want one switch to control multiple lights like I did, you MUST have the same channel. If you're using multiple of these around the house to control different things in different rooms, you MUST have different channels. The signals are very strong. So here's what you need to know: Setup couldn't be simpler. If this works, unscrew the white screws on the front of the switch box and remove the tab blocking the included battery and test the switch by plugging it in where you want it and holding the switch box near where it is you want to mount it. I installed two outlets in a room. One under the side table by the sofa to power the lamp at the end of the table and one under/behind the accent table on the opposite side of the room to power the lamp on the table. Tables and objects on the way didn't interfere with the signal at all. They worked flawlessly! If you want to wall mount it with the included screws and anchors, go ahead. However, the connection box only weighs a few grams and the included hardware is overkill. I appreciate they include it, but it's REALLY not necessary to have 2 wall anchors and 2 screws to install something this small and light. Instead I decided to use two paper thin transparent command strips (for hanging posters etc) to mount them on the wall next to another light switch and it worked great. This thing isn't going anywhere. FYI, a switch looks more like a button than a switch. You don't rotate it up and down, you press the button up or down. You can press both sides and it will turn on/off. It makes a button-press sound, but nothing obnoxious. It just doesn't feel like a switch flick like you might imagine. That's not a problem, just an observation. As you can see from my photos, the size and appearance of the switch plate adequately reproduces the size and shape of a traditional wall switch, but it is not exact. Firstly, this switch is a bit thicker/chunkier and secondly, the switch is not a switch but a button. But I think it looks good enough! As I said before, once installed, this product works very well. The reason I deducted 1 star is because the white bezel screws are cheap plastic and all messed up by just gently unscrewing them with a regular screwdriver. In my photos you can see what I mean. Make them sticky. My advice is to be VERY careful when unscrewing and reinstalling them if you don't want them destroyed. Either that or you plan to replace them with white headed metal screws of the same size. Also, they ONLY work with 2-pin connectors. If you need to connect something with three pins you'll either have to add a converter or you'll have no luck with that. I would also like the knob to be an actual switch, but that's a very minor quibble. My biggest problem with this item wasn't the item itself (so I only deducted one star) but getting the RIGHT items for my needs. Just be aware that you may not get exactly what you are asking for! If you only need one, no need to worry (lucky you)! All in all I am delighted with this find and would highly recommend this product if you have lights or other electronic or 2 plug devices that you want to be able to conveniently turn on or off from the wall plate. Get this product for free or with a discount! I paid full price (for all 4 haha!). Hope that helps!
