Review on Kensington MicroSaver Retractable Laptop K64538US by Paul Wilson

After using this lock for two and a half weeks I finally figured out how to fully and easily retract it. I am basically writing this review so others will know too. The problem is that retraction depends on an attractive mechanism (I don't know the exact terminology). So if you try to pull it in slowly and guide it in a way that doesn't tip it over abruptly, it won't go back all the way. If you just let it roll over abruptly someone could get hurt because the head is heavy (RIP my right middle joint). What you have to do is hold the head of the lock right where it goes in and then press the button. This allows it to be fully retracted without tipping over. A few more notes: This little guy is strong. Looks thin but stays strong. I use mine on my daily commute, which usually means I use it to tie my suitcase to the floor of the charter bus in the nearly empty luggage compartment. When I get off the bus, you can see that the suitcase twitches, but the lock holds tight. (I found a way to keep the suitcase from moving enough to not put stress on the lock, but I'm impressed the lock did its job.) This guy saves time. Studying in public places like libraries, all I have to do is put my laptop back in my suitcase and attach it to something with this lock when I need to use the bathroom. I don't have to pack and carry everything around, and I don't have to worry about my seat being occupied when I return. The only really tricky thing is figuring out how to lock and unlock the mechanism. However, once you get the hang of it, things will go very smoothly. First you insert the key and turn it when you press it. This will align the X shape of the key with the I shape. You then insert it into the lock, turn it, and turn it again to remove the key. All in all, I highly recommend it, especially with the Kensington SecureTrek laptop roll I use it with. (I'm not a fan of the suitcase, and this isn't a review for it, but it's one of the few of its kind—lockable, reversible, small but big enough—that I've found.)
