Review on Cloud PR2100 Network Attached Storage by Alberto Brewster

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Well designed, fast, quiet, and comes with RED drives

Despite the price, I recommend these semi-professional RAID drives to anyone who needs to redundantly store large amounts of data. to protect against data loss. The device is easy to install. Just plug it in, plug in the network cable and get started. You then install a small software package on your computer to access the data on the drive and perform management functions. The web-based manager is quite nice, with many features and functions for advanced users, but with an intuitive interface for those unfamiliar with these features. Slightly slow startup and shutdown times are a factor, but not really a big deal as long as you leave the drives powered on and put them to sleep when not in use. Physically, the device is compact but heavy (of course, the drive contains two 3.5-inch RED network drives plus the RAID hardware itself) and visually appealing. Noisy when starting up and shutting down, almost silent in normal operation. Ethernet transfer speeds are good, with many transfers reaching 100Mbps (speeds depend on whether you are transferring a lot of small files or smaller files). The drives themselves can be easily accessed from the front by pulling the hinge lever up and the drive popping out. So if you ever need to replace one of those network drives, it's not hard at all (and hopefully we never have to). After a few hard drive failures I realized I needed to switch to a more reliable data storage method (I'm a photographer) and that fits. I like the device so much that I have two of them: a 16GB model and a 12GB model. Their relatively small size and overall quiet make them an unobtrusive pair of storage devices. When you think about the cost, ask yourself the "cost" of losing all those photos, recordings, videos, etc. you've captured over the years. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
