Review on Roman Carbide DC1916 Forstner 15 Piece Set by David Fields

I'm really torn about this product.

I am really torn with this product. Pros: The carbide tips are well aligned, the drill bits cut the right size holes, entry was clean, the hex shanks are concentric with the drill hole, and they easily cut through hard maple for 15 minutes non-stop. It's ok: the edges of the holes for all but the three smallest bits are coated with a pair of serrated bits of hard metal instead of a knife blade or sawtooth - the wall of the drilled hole is rougher than expected. Terrible: As others have mentioned the case is terrible for transport, my bits were mostly on one end and one of the large bits was chipped off with scratched paint like many others. I can't understand how anyone thought the foam would hold the bits in their flat holders (not in the grooves). I needed two bits from this set for a project and was about half stuck for some other reason, so I took the opportunity to purchase a good quality 1 9/16 inch high speed steel (HSS) bit from Lee Valley for comparison. In harsh environments these bits would probably be ideal, but for those who care about their instruments and don't make large batches. I don't know, I'm still considering returning it.
