Review on πŸ”₯ Stainless Steel Splatter Screen by U.S. Kitchen Supply: Superior 13" Fine Mesh with Resting Feet by Cynthia Good

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Buying a 3 piece/size kit is exactly what you need!

I've only been using this for about a month, mainly for hot oil and meat fried foods, but so far I'm very impressed. Worried and undecided, but since it seemed to me that they were probably using the wrong size screen (i.e. much larger than a saucepan) and probably using a flame (even though I have a flat electric stove), I decided to take a chance. Glad you did! So keep in mind that I'm using an electric stove with a flat, smooth cooktop and use three different sizes to match the dimensions of the pan so there's no significant overhang. Pros: - Much stronger than the ones we had from the big stores - Handles stay cool for my use. I was worried they wouldn't. - Multiple sizes ensure a perfect fit for a variety of pots. - They really sit snug and in place (unlike the light, flimsy ones we've had). - Screen mesh is not as thin as As far as moisture trapping goes, good airflow but still good enough to catch almost all splashes. - Since they are all metal, you no longer have to worry about cheap handles melting or breaking off from heat. - Very easy to clean with just dish soap and hot water (I use a kitchen sink sprayer next to our faucet) but also put the 2 smaller ones in the dishwasher a few times. The design with "legs" on one side is fantastic for taking off the pot and putting down without worrying about the "food side" of the colanders coming into contact with the stove or countertop. (I can assume some reviewers put the wrong side on the pan - the flat side goes on the pan and the side with the "legs" raised is for pan removal and installation). Cons: - Maybe none really come to mind, but if we're really picky - the biggest screen will be too tall for some dishwashers. So if you can't take 30 seconds to clean it in the sink, then I guess that might not be what you want. If they hold up as well as they seem, then 5 stars! I can already tell they will outlive the ones we got in the big stores that had plastic jammed in the handles and screens that was too thin/trapped too much moisture which in turn caused more splatter/splashes . It's only been a month so if anything changes I'll definitely come back and update this review.

Pros
  • Versatile: The splatter guard is ideal for use when food is cooking, when food needs to be seen and controlled, or when food gets too hot when using a pot lid. The strainer keeps splatters out and allows steam to escape while the pan and food maintain a constant heat. The rack can also be used to drain and strain pots and pans, to steam vegetables while cooking, or as a rack to cool muffins and cookies.
