I got this to replace a broken headphone jack on a Turtle Beach headset. I watched a few videos and decided it was worth trying the repair. I chose these forks as they mostly have solder points and my shaky hands are a bit more forgiving. In addition to the connectors, I bought a cheap soldering set because I didn't have any. I removed the old defective connector and disconnected all the wires. I prepared the wires by covering their ends with a small amount of solder. Then I grabbed a spare plug, grabbed the schematic on my phone and figured out what goes where. Tip: Apply some solder to the point before attempting to solder the wire. Then just put the wire where you want to solder, put on the iron, the solder melts and you can sort of slide the wire in. Is this the best way to do it? Probably not, but it helped me and my amateur soldering skills. Tip: Unless you have alligator clips and the like, grab a cardboard box and stick the pointed end of a fork in it to hold the fork in place while soldering. The other three lots are relatively easy. Tip: After you're done soldering, take some tape and wrap the solder for the correct audio and ground (pins 2 and 3, two tabs). This will prevent a short circuit after you plug it back into the connector while the cable is moving. Then screw it back into the sleeve and you're done. I also added some tape around the base of the sleeve for extra stability. Hooked it up to my laptop to test it and everything worked great including the mute and volume buttons on the headset. pogsham Brought it back to a 9 year old, it's been working ever since. It took me about an hour and a half to do it from start to finish BUT it also involved learning my soldering iron and a few mistakes I made while cutting the wires. Now that I know what I'm doing, I can easily redo it in 30 minutes.
