I am using two fans side by side mounted horizontally on the underside of a vent on the top of my case. The ventilation opening is designed for a heat sink and offers space for two 12 cm fans. I realize that any technology used to suspend the hub and blades in fans is somewhat compromised when the fans are in a horizontal position. I used corner silencers (sold separately) so there is no noticeable noise. However, the fan is no quieter than other fans I've used above 700 RPM or so. The fans are more expensive than normal case fans and do not offer better performance than significantly cheaper fans. They move very little air even at high revs (1100 rpm). Definitely disappointing. I would have replaced them if it hadn't taken so much time and effort to install.
