Review on πŸ“± Koomus Pro CD-M Magnetic Smartphone Car Mount Holder for iPhone and Android Devices - Single, Black by Brian Page

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was skeptical but now I believe

[UPDATE April 18, 2016: It has been almost 5 months since I purchased this product. I use this phone holder every day on my way to work (2 hours a day). I've kept it in the CD compartment since I bought it. I noticed a very slight discoloration of the protective rubber coating. It looks like it has turned a light gray color from being in the sun for a long time (doesn't look bad at all. Mind you, that's just my inner critic watching things). Let's see how the color changes as the hot summer days get closer. Of course, this does not affect form, fit or function. Those who are still skeptical that magnets will interfere with or damage the smartphone, be reminded that there is no danger. Since then I've been using the same iPhone and all functions work as expected. No loss of GPS signal, cellular coverage, Bluetooth signal, etc. Everything works seamlessly even when attached to a magnetic phone mount. I hope this update has helped clear any doubts. I see the price has gone down since I got it. You would go crazy if you didn't try this product! PS: I am an engineer and I think this is a well designed product. Very strong, durable and doesn't protrude too far to cause an unwanted "swing" effect of the pendulum every time you hit a bump or crack in the road. FYI: I did NOT receive this product for free from Koomus hoping to get an unbiased review. This was bought with my own money. :-)//End of update][ORIGINAL REVIEW (5 Dec 2015): I bought this Koomus Pro CD-M phone holder because I was looking for an easy way to mount my iPhone 6 in my car. To be honest I was a bit skeptical about this magnetic device and how it could fit into the CD slot. I did a lot of research on this model and how magnets affect the modern smartphone. My findings were that the magnet would not harm the phone. You don't have to worry about losing files since your phone has an SSD (Solid State Drive). I know the average person will think that any magnet is bad for electronics. Computers with hard drives can be damaged by strong enough magnets because hard drives use magnetism to store information. The SSDs in phones (and now many computers) don't use magnetism, they use semiconductor technology. Therefore, you don't have to worry that this magnetic phone holder will erase all media files on your phone. Also, it doesn't affect your GPS applications (Apple Maps or Google Maps). I use google maps and the magnet doesn't bother it. GPS uses satellites for navigation, not a compass. I've been using this phone holder every day on my commute since I bought it a week ago. I have an Otterbox Symmetry case on my phone and I inserted both metal plates between the phone and the case. The rubber coating of the magnet prevents scratches. The phone literally won't detach from the cradle unless you have an accident or someone knocks it over. I accidentally drove into a few potholes this week and my phone didn't move at all. The ball shaft that the magnet sits on is also solid and easy to adjust. The knob that holds the holder in the CD slot is solid and offers a secure hold. I'm glad I chose this phone holder. It requires no effort and is much more convenient than a standard spring clip phone mount. I would recommend this phone holder to anyone and everyone.//End of original review]
