I live on my boat in Los Angeles. I'm a 10 minute bike ride from several grocery stores and wanted to use my bike for as much shopping as possible. The bike ride is shorter (in time) than my car, parking is much easier, closer to shops and faster. Sometimes it takes longer to find a parking space than to go shopping. I mention my location because the weather didn't figure in my decision grid when choosing a rack for my bike. If I still lived in Seattle I would probably go for the rainproof option. So when I bought my bike, I immediately bought a forest folding basket to attach to my luggage rack. The design has a few flaws, but I was able to install it using zip ties instead of the metal brackets Wald provided, and it served my purpose. The fasteners supplied by Wald did not match my bike rack and were not the same color as the basket and my bike. .When I decided to add a second basket to the other side of the rack on my bike, I decided to try the Sunlite model because it had several features that I now knew would be valuable (the forest basket experience taught me a lot and prompted me to evaluate the reviewers' comments on both products). Here are the main reasons why I think the Sunlite product is better than the forest basket. I have uploaded three photos reflecting the reasons I prefer the Sunlite product. The Sunlite basket on my bike is on the left and the Wald basket is on the right.1. The Sunlite model is larger when open, which increases its carrying capacity. Sunlite thought better about the mounting options and even provided some heavy-duty cable ties as a mounting option. I didn't use the hose clamps that came with it because I thought they would scratch my bike and the black wire clamps match my bike. Sunlite supplied some really strong zip ties but I had to use my own to finish the job. More cable ties would be nice.3. The latch that keeps the Sunlite basket closed is much more efficient than the Wald. One of the photos I uploaded shows the bungee cord I use to keep the forest basket closed when not in use. The photo shows paint damage on the forest basket caused by paint scratches on the bolt. The Sunlite closure may not be better in the long run, but initially it is significantly more effective than the closure on the Wald basket. A problem with the Wald bolt is that it appears to have been designed for an unpainted basket and layers of paint on the bolt and heating wire make the bolt difficult to turn. The Sunlite basket's mesh bottom prevents mail from entering through the bottom of the basket. This is a forest wagon problem when I visit our mailbox on the same trip to the grocery store. 5. The finish of the Sunlite basket is better than that of the forest basket. Both baskets can easily handle quite a bit of weight. I put three 12-packs of fizzy drinks in my forest basket and it kept them safe. Reviewers of both products mentioned the fact that you have to fold out the outer wall of the basket to get the bottom support in place. This is cited as a downside, but I consider it a feature to ensure the bottom doesn't fall out of my basket when I'm using it. The forest basket is slightly cheaper than the Sunlite, but not enough in my opinion. it is cheaper to justify forest over sunlite. On the other hand, the Wald basket is so serviceable that I don't plan on replacing it with a second Sunlite.
