Relatively cheap and easy do-it-yourself repair

Now that I've replaced the rear shock absorbers on our GMC Acadia I can look back and understand why it was hard to figure out they needed replacing. In my case, the expansion valve on the old shock absorbers was defective, but the pressure reducing valve was fine. When braking, the tail was thrown into the air. The rear suspension also rose slightly and rebounded fairly normally. We bought the car new so we knew how enjoyable the drive could be and it came back brand new. The A-pillars seem to have been good for a while too. Used a YouTube video with instructions, took an hour and 15 minutes including putting away the tools.

Pros
  • Shock absorbers
Cons
  • Big and bulky
