Review on πŸš— GRACO Nautilus 65 LX 3-in-1 Harness Booster Car Seat, Conley: Ultimate Safety and Comfort for Your Child by Charity Holloway

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good seat with a few issues preventing it from being great.

I purchased this item to replace a previous Graco child car seat (rear or rear facing) for my 2.5 year old daughter that was past its use by date. Here are my thoughts: 1. The seat comes with the seat ripped off the base, so the package is quite large. However, attaching the seat back to the base was easy by following the instructions that came with it. No problem, just be aware that you will have a very large (about 4-5ft high) package at your doorstep. The padding/cushions are very good. Instead of a small insert (like many similar seats) the padding is one big piece running from the front of the lower seat base to about the middle of the backrest, very nice and comfortable (probably more comfortable than my seat to be honest) . Please note that this is in addition to the total coverage on the base (seat). Thus, your child will have a very comfortable seat in a harness or booster with back mode.3. The backrest is advertised as having three tiers. My opinion,"a". It actually has three positions described, but the incline is VERY limited. I measure about a few centimeters. Just making sure the base is parallel to your seat and properly set up isn't enough to really "lean" into the seat.4. Some reviewers note the difficulty in adjusting the length of the top harness. I can see where this could be an issue with the headrest in the lowest locked position. To solve this problem, simply adjust the headrest/guard to a notch that provides adequate slack/clearance for the two straps in question. This allowed me to slightly adjust the length of the harness (easiest is to leave the top buckle of the harness - the plastic buckle - closed so you can pull it down and out while holding the button under the white cover on the front buckle). I noticed that this requires little effort, but works fine with the headrest up. There are two cute little "corners" on the inside of each armrest.6. There are two elastic "pockets" which, as shown in the picture, serve to hold the metal buckles from the top harness so they don't get in the way while your child is sitting. Good idea, but I don't find it effective. Still, kudos for the effort as it hurts sometimes. front depending on little and big kids) to the foremost position (my little one already tops 30 pounds of charming cuteness). The instructions say to turn the metal buckle sideways so it goes through the slot, ha! It's EXTREMELY difficult (dare I say almost impossible as I've had to do it with two of these seats and have injuries to support it). It took me almost an hour and a half to thread the buckle through the slot (I inserted it back to front twice which resulted in a few choice words), resulting in multiple cuts and an ugly blister on my arm. While the plastic base has three slots, the top pad insert has only two slots (one should match each of the three bottom slots in the bottom pad and base). There is very little room to reach into the underside of the base to move the buckle and strap through the base, the top strap of the strap covers the slots (so you'll need to fully undo the top strap to get under the strap and even see the slots), and there are some sharp edges and burrs on the underside that are just perfect for smashing your hand when you make a Herculean attempt to fit a ruffled buckle into the slot (want to I'll condemn the designer to hell for not being able to design this - something that maintains the required security but doesn't require a few cuts, blisters and bandages for an adult trying to follow instructions). The second complaint concerns the characteristics of the seat. which seems to be a very good roller coaster. This is good, but only for smaller diameter bottles/cups. Shorter, stockier cups will not fit properly in the cup holder. However, it easily holds smaller (and larger) cups. This could be improved by increasing the diameter of the cup holder. Overall, I'll give it a 4 for the lack of slant, difficulty adjusting the base buckle, and small-diameter cup holder. With a few small design changes, this seat could be a rock star.
