Review on πŸ“€ Panasonic DMP-BD75 High-Speed Start Blu-ray Disc Player by Andrew Dinelli

Too Glitchy

I have an XBox360 so I was just looking for a Blu-ray disc player that can play BD movies at a reasonable price. This player was cheap, claimed to load discs quickly, and had good reviews. It has great picture and sound quality, but it falls short on the basics. For some crazy reason, Netflix is now more important to work properly on a BD player than actually playing BD movies. 1.) It usually takes 2-5 minutes to get to the top menu on a given trip (sometimes longer). Some discs require EVERY preview to be displayed. You can fast-forward to the next preview, then you have to fast-forward again (you get stuck pressing the FF key). 2.) The player freezes fairly regularly and it's usually caused by what's playing on my Bluray TV. My TV doesn't show the source option until it receives a signal from it (see where this becomes a problem?). This also compiles the previous problem because I'd rather watch something else on TV while the disc hits the top menu. If it freezes during that time, you'll never know until you switch back and a black screen appears. Then you have to turn it off and start over. HDMI signal connection monitoring is a good technology to build functionality, but it is abused. 3.) Sometimes the player freezes when trying to play the disc and you can press stop and start playing again, luckily. not play the disc. This was fixed with a firmware update, but now the player freezes more frequently. No doubt this player can quickly jump to the first preview on the disc, but if you don't want to see the same 6 previews every time you insert a disc, then what good is it? Give me a player that goes to the top menu when you press the top menu button and I'll pay double the money for it. Yes, the picture and sound quality is phenomenal, but the beta player we had in the 80's played movies faster.
