After much research I was a little surprised to find out how painful a split snaffle bit can be and I decided to buy two of them. One for my husband's horse who hates the bit and one for my horse who has a good bit but I didn't like the idea of putting a split snaffle in his mouth anymore as he's a good boy and it's not does' You don't need too much control (or pain). !) As always, my husband's mare didn't take the bit well, but as soon as she put it in her mouth, you could see a change taking place in her. No head shaking, no excessive denture chewing and a much more comfortable head position as she no longer wrestled with her dentures. He could also use more strength than his legs for a change. My gelding liked it too and rewarded me with a good bouncy ride.
