Review on DuraWheel DW 1000 Distance Measuring Wheel 12 5 by Greg Muiznieks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Accurate, easy to use and reliable, a serious tool for the real world.

This Durawheel is my first wheel gauge and after reading reviews of other brands that broke after 6 uses I decided 'cry once, buy once' and one quality too choose one. The first thing I did was walk to the parking lot with my 200 foot fiber optic band and then walk back and forth the 70 foot distance alongside the band. As far as I can tell, the Durawheel is just right for this distance. A handbrake is really great for setting a starting point and maintaining a reading distance at the end of a run. When selecting this block 68901 I wasn't sure if this would be a useful feature but now I can't imagine working without a brake. I wish it could be locked, but in the long run having a brake without a lock is better than no brake at all. If you are wondering whether a 12.5 inch wheel is required for use on roads or rough surfaces (rather than a wheel with smaller wheels), I can say from my limited experience that a larger wheel is definitely needed for both rough terrain the right way would be and and for better accuracy when hitting rocks and other obstacles. The wheel is quiet and the design is reliable. It folds easily with a single latch and is fairly compact when folded. I expect this tool to last a very long time.

Pros
  • Sturdy oval tube, heavy duty pistol grip folding handle
Cons
  • Some bugs
