All other reviews are correct. This is probably the most realistic electric fireplace log set you can find for an existing fireplace, but ONLY under ideal viewing conditions. This is achieved through the use of a reflective piece of plastic. If too much light hits the plastic or the angle is wrong, the reflective plastic will stand out VERY and the chimney will look fake and a bit distracting. In the end we were NOT happy with it and are looking for an alternative. Whatever we choose instead, it won't look realistic under ideal conditions. But in the real conditions of our living room, it will look more realistic. will this work for you? Here is the ideal scenario: - Your firebox is not too big. If it's much larger, and especially if it's much higher than the inset, the plastic will be more visible - your room won't be too bright. If there are many windows, especially if the windows are on the opposite wall, there will be more reflections on. Your chimney is at ground level. If you have an elevated firebox you're more likely to have trouble as the plastic reflects most of the room - be prepared to relocate the lamps to avoid reflections. In our case we couldn't do that because we have built-in lighting.- You want to turn off most or all lights when using the fireplace. In the dark it looks really fantastic. So, to sum it up: This fireplace can be perfect for your needs. I suspect this covers about 25% of potential buyers looking for a magazine set. For others, it's a compromise and you might be better off using an insert that's less realistic in ideal conditions but looks better in real life. We are still looking for something for our fireplace. This dimplex will probably go away. Next we will try the ClassicFlame infrared insert with 3D effect. Look at the picture how it looks during the day when it is off and in the evening when the fire is burning.
