If you have a black painted fireplace you will NOT be satisfied with this product. The large transparent plastic screen (required to reflect the flames) will stand out against any dark background. If you're one of the few people who have a white-painted fireplace, you'll love it because you can't see the screen. I have a place where I can use it so I'm keeping it, but I'll be buying other devices for my other rooms.

Such a "fireplace" is cool! It looks realistic and is very easy to install. We couldn't connect the gas plumbing in our Arizona home and it fit the bill perfectly! It stands in the beehive's fire pit behind a screen, and you'll never guess it's not a real tree. I even bought a box of crackles and it's too much! I keep the box back and at a lower level otherwise it doesn't sound real. This really solved our problem when we found out we didn't have access to the gas line!

These logs are very realistic. The set of logs came with one broken log - but I kept it anyway. From a visual point of view it can't get any better for logs that aren't real or gas logs (very close competitor to gas logs). Without the damaged magazine it would have been 5 stars. One caveat: if your fireplace gets a lot of light, the plastic shade will be visible and detract from realism. The remote works well when you point it down at the center of the trunks.

All other reviews are correct. This is probably the most realistic electric fireplace log set you can find for an existing fireplace, but ONLY under ideal viewing conditions. This is achieved through the use of a reflective piece of plastic. If too much light hits the plastic or the angle is wrong, the reflective plastic will stand out VERY and the chimney will look fake and a bit distracting.
