Review on uxcell 1/4 Inch CCD Flush Mount Rear View Camera for Backup Assistance by Russell Rabbach

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good camera, no "up " indicator.

Installed the camera last week. The picture is pretty good. The image has permanent guides on the bottom half of the image and a reminder not to rely on the camera for backup on the top (if I remember correctly) of the image. The hole saw is of a precise diameter and cuts a hole that fits snugly in the chamber. I still used some silicone sealant around the inside rim of the chamber to improve the seal. One complaint is that there's no real "up" indicator on the camera to make installation easier. There is *a* dot on the cylindrical body of the camera; I test the camera with the point up (due to the narrowness of the hole you can't insert the camera all the way and hope you can take it out easily). In this orientation, the image was rotated 90 degrees by the camera (I can't remember which direction). Just remember not to push the camera all the way in until you line up the picture; It helps to connect the camera to the monitor, turn it on and watch the monitor from the rear window when rotating the camera. I power my camera from the reverse lights, which I measured at around 10VDC with the lights on (via the bulb). I will most likely switch to an auxiliary power cord so that the camera has power when the key is in the ACC position or higher. This allows me to look at the camera from my Kenwood head unit without going into reverse. I measured the power consumption of the camera at 110 mA, which (for my taste) is too much to leave it connected to the permanent battery hotline. The image is fairly sharp, colors are a bit washed out, but that *could* be due to the lower voltage. I am not sure. I would probably recommend this camera to others.

Pros

Cons
  • Exchange option
