i wanted to love it

I love heavy commercial equipment. Especially for things that require a lot of force, like pushing a whole potato through a set of knives. It looked great and I was very excited to see how it would appear on the internet. Unfortunately, there were a few deal breakers: (1) The pen was crumpled right out of the box. There appears to be a base metal and some sort of metal plating, all indented allowing the underlying metal to show through. (2) The main lamp has parts that insert into a plate that is permanently attached to the wall. Unfortunately the metal cover material had all sorts of lumps and bumps that prevented the legs from fitting into the wall mount plate. (3) Most of it is VERY heavy, which seems great until you realize that part of the hinge mechanism, probably the part that gets most stress, is a flimsy, flimsy piece of bent metal. Mine was slightly bent upon arrival. It reminds me of the old adage "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link," which rendered the rest of the impossibly heavy structure useless. (4) The hinge parts are assembled by snapping these odd semi-circular metal clips into the grooves on the pins. It was impossible for me to do by hand (I'm a pretty strong 6ft 200lb guy) and extremely awkward to do with pliers. (5) The wall mount plate seems like a brilliant idea as you can mount it permanently on the wall and then just slide the main unit in and out for cleaning. Well, apart from mine not being able to slide (like point 2 above), the distance between the holes is way too big. Standard US lugs are just under two inches wide, but hole spacing is about 3 inches. It just doesn't work if you want the screws to go into the studs in all the holes (which of course you should do when something is going to be that heavily used). (6) Finally, there is a warning that the product may expose you to lead. Well, this is one of those "state of California known" warnings that I don't usually worry too much about, but it literally says "This product may expose you to chemicals, including LEAD (pb)". In my cooking product that I use with my children? No thank you. The creators of this product had a lot of good ideas, but the implementation just didn't suit them.
