Review on Planet Bike Protege 8 Function Computer by Larry Gaines

The main differentiator of this computer is a unique multi-line display. I like it when all the information I need is available at a glance and I don't have to fiddle with buttons while driving. The text seems large enough to be read at a glance. I haven't seen any other products with this design so I would definitely recommend a product for this function. The only design flaw on this product is that the function button (for resetting the trip meters or toggling the 4th line of the display between hours, averages, etc.) is built into the case in such a way that you push the button all the way forward to to activate it. This means the entire computer literally slides into the mount. Wiping the plastic isn't particularly smooth, and I wish they'd just put a regular button on the bottom bottom edge of the case instead. This odd design gives the impression that the computer is not holding as securely as I would like, although I have not encountered any risk of the computer detaching from the mount after 1 month of driving on roads/trails. So unless you can find another product with a similarly good display, I wouldn't consider this shortcoming as a determining factor.
