Well Built, Inexpensive, Fun Lens

Although I've had many lenses for a variety of cameras, I had never owned a fisheye lens. Having recently switched to a SONY mirrorless camera system and reading reviews of this lens, I had to try it. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the all-metal assembly of the lens and the smooth operation of the focus and aperture mechanisms. It's fully manual, so be prepared to forgo all the automatic features found on other lenses, including enabling the 'lensless trigger', but at this price point it's well worth it. The picture quality is very acceptable. . It's fairly sharp, although I do see some chromatic aberration around the edges of the frame (the image comes out full frame rather than rounded like some fisheye lenses). There is no vignetting at all. Distortion, sure, but that's what fisheye lenses do. The SONY E-mount version I bought came with a metal lens cap that is easy to put on and take off, and there is a velvet strip friction insert on the inner perimeter of the cap. It is thick enough not to fall off when shaken. The lens hood is an integral part of the lens and should protect the slightly protruding front element. Kit, even if it's just for occasional use.
