Purchased to wrap some of the hilts of some close combat practice swords, many people have suggested this. It was a brilliant idea to provide a good grip that I don't lose with a little sweat. I've used it for everything that shines right now. You'll need to replace the tape from time to time, but that's to be expected. The tape didn't leave a significant mark and when you reapply it you won't even notice. The grip isn't rough or anything, you're just holding a hard cloth instead of smooth wood or plastic and if you sweat it can make a world of difference.
