Variable resistor defective.
Variable resistor is not working natively for some reason. When filling the gas tank, the pressure gauge needle does not change, you can drive the car for hours without changes, but as soon as you turn on the engine power, it changes. Something that didn't happen with the original. The fact that you can drive it for hours without changing the needle suggests that the problem was not with the installation but with the electrical system.
