Review on πŸ”₯ Thermo-Tec 11022: High Performance 2" X 50' Black Graphite Wrap for Optimal Heat Protection by Darrell Shreves

Looks great at first glance - black finish is peeling

I used this tape to wrap the exhaust manifolds on my Triumph Scrambler. It ended up being way more than I needed, I could probably get by with a 15ft roll (just for the headers, not the whole pipe). It was really easy to install and looked great. I didn't even have to remove the pipes to install them. Just put on gloves and know fiberglass gets on everything while working with this product. I've used zip ties to secure the ends and so far, after about 1 month/400 miles, it's holding up well. Smelly and smoky for the first few runs while it heals but it goes away. The wrap significantly reduces the outside air temperature of the exhaust pipe. I still wouldn't touch it, but it won't melt your skin if you do! The only problem is that the tape turns white on the hottest parts of the pipe. It seems that the black color is just a surface coating that wears off at high temperatures. For what it's worth, this bike has an emissions control feature that burns unused fuel in the tailpipe, resulting in higher exhaust gas temperatures (which is why you often see blue headers on modern Triumphs' pipes). Maybe that's not a problem for you, but I may need to rework my high temp paint or redo the titanium foil.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Modern
