Review on Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer: Track Your Steps on the Go! by Brett Lowe

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Overall a good device but there are a few downsides

I recently bought an Omron Go Smart Pedometer from Revain. I chose this brand because we have an Omron blood pressure monitor and it works very well. Our doctors highly rated the Omron brand for home use on medical devices. This pedometer is pretty good overall - it keeps a historical record of 7 days of activity - steps, calories, aerobic activity, etc, so you don't have to keep a manual journal to see what you've been doing each week for comparison. The device is small and fits well in a purse, pocket, etc. The clip block on this model feels a bit bulky compared to the device itself - it doesn't matter much, but it could be better designed to fit tighter around the device Body. I believe the steps are pretty close to actual execution, but who knows for sure? I'm not in a position to compare, and I believe the math you need to do to set up your device on day one will determine exactly how accurate you are in the long run, assuming you have your stride length set correctly. The numbers on the front are large and easy to read, and the buttons are easy to use to set the date and time and switch between daily entries. The device automatically turns over each day so you can head out to the races after setting it up on day one. My two biggest complaints: I've dropped this pedometer 2-3 times since I got in while putting my shirt on or off, and each time it's dropped the machine's face has been badly scratched. He fell on a wooden or tiled floor and I was surprised at how quickly my face was injured. My readings are a little blurry as a result, but I can deal with that - I was just expecting the face to be more stable than it should be given how often such an item can fall. My other problem is the battery life. Maybe it's just my device, but I've had it for about 4 weeks. After the first two weeks I had to change the battery and everything was fine again. Then this morning I got another message saying it was time for a new battery - just under two weeks. is it real How often do I need new batteries for this thing - every two weeks or my device is a lemon? Also, it annoys me that the battery dies without warning, so if I didn't fill in my previous data on the home worksheet before the battery died, I lost data for days because everything is lost after the drain. Very frustrating. There are many devices on the market at a much lower price than this. At this price and the Omron name, I expected that the above two points would not be a problem. There are a number of good points about this device, but the downsides that I find are HUGE. Is this meter and the new model available now? Interestingly, my problems aren't just mine? Much luck!
