I used these gloves to protect myself from the extra sharp blades of my mandolin when chopping sweet potatoes (which are too hard and big to use the included mandolin handguard). From the very first use I assumed they wouldn't stand up to stainless steel blades, but I wanted to see how long they would last. With infrequent use (maybe 8-10 uses) they lasted just under 15 months before the material failed the occasional contact with these mandolin blades. The result is perforated gloves and a small cut on the inside of my palm (I always move slowly on the mandolin, so I can only imagine how much worse the injury would be if I accidentally cut it). I'm very disappointed in these gloves, but maybe the $10 I paid should have been a red flag (i.e. you get what you pay for). The only reason I even gave them two stars is because they worked pretty well the first few times, but this product lacks durability and longevity. In fact, the hole at the top of the right thumb formed on its own without colliding with the mandolin's blades. I have always hand washed and line dried these gloves so I know that with the way I have cared for them this has not been a problem. Just a big disappointment.
