Free shipping was fast as usual, thanks to Revain.com! I'm just telling you why I chose this lens. I was at a kids party about two weeks ago, I took my Kx with a 18-55mm kit lens. I set the ISO to 1600 (sometimes 3200) automatically. I didn't use flash at all. In most cases the light in the room was enough for a decent photo. However, the children were moving a lot and fast, the shutter speed just wasn't enough to capture these actions, so a fast lens is clearly needed in this situation. I have an M 50mm f1.7 lens, I have a decent aperture, but with manual focus it's almost impossible to focus fast enough. So my conclusion - I need a fast lens with autofocus! I was thinking of buying the FA 50mm f/1.4 but for space constrained rooms its FOV seems too narrow, although its price is acceptable I doubt its usefulness indoors (if I'm going with an 18-55- mm lens, I rarely used FL over 50mm, mostly 18-35mm). The next thing I considered was this lens. It's a good price, it's f/2.4, it's light, it looks good on my Kx (see the photos I took with my phone). I tested it as soon as I received it. There is no light in the room, only the TV works, so it's quite dark, I set ISO 1600 Auto, the lens is wide open (f/2.4), the autofocus worked well, fairly fast without any stuttering , the picture came out bright , sharp, I really like the color. Next, I checked into the restaurant (see the photos I uploaded). With Kx performance in low light, this lens is the perfect companion! I think that's more than enough for a children's party (the lighting conditions are much better than in a restaurant). Can't wait to test it out for the next kids party which is coming up soon. Utility: While it can be used for anything, I think it's most useful indoors (especially for moving subjects that require a decent shutter speed). For other situations, e.g. B. outdoors in good light, I still prefer a 55-300mm lens (it's a very sharp, versatile lens for me) or an 18-55mm kit lens (I don't have any other expensive lenses ) . Lens hood: No lens hood is provided, I don't think you need a lens hood indoors. I bought a lens hood for an old 50mm f/1.7 lens on ebay but it doesn't fit. I put a lens hood on this lens, it fits perfectly! I can also put a cap on a hood. Thank you for your time and hope this helps. UPDATES: Having attended two birthday parties (one at school, the other at a friend's house) I would say this lens is good enough for the purpose, although sometimes I just wish I had a wider field of view (which is why I have FA 50mm F1.4 abandoned). Otherwise, the picture is sharp at full aperture, bright, color reproduction is good, white balance is accurate (more natural compared to my M 50mm F1.7 lens, which gives me warmer tones). At both parties I set my Kx to ISO 1600 auto, at school I often get ISO 800 at 1/60s, at home (during the day all daylight through the windows except basement) I sometimes get ISO 200 at 1/60s, I mostly managed 400-800, so I put a 55-300mm lens in the second half for honest photos.
