We have gone through many types of children's gates. We trust this gate at the top of our stairs to keep our child safe even as they pull up and push them. Tonight my two-year-old son realized he could climb over it. Big. The good news is that the gate didn't move (I saw him on our security video) when he climbed over it twice. Our previous tension grids from other manufacturers broke in two and in the end we couldn't put them back together. .This style has a fuse that annoyed us at first, but we soon realized its ease of use. The safety lock prevents accidental movement of the gate or sliding of the gate into two unconnected halves. With our other gates, we had to use a marker to mark the recess that the gate should be in in case they were to lose their position. Enough! The wood is beautiful - no splinters. The plastic is as aesthetic as it gets. The holes are the perfect size to prevent children's toys or their little hands from getting in. Our baby has never scratched or cut himself on the smooth plastic grid. I don't see an option for that either. Light. Highly recommended.
