Review on Renewed Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Headphones by Kayla Miller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good headphones in headphones

If you need studio monitor headphones, these are good; I like using them. The detachable cable makes portability/storage easier imo - I previously had a pair of ATH-M30x's that died in part due to issues with the non-detachable cable. However, if you're looking for a pair of studio monitor headphones with a good sound signature and for everyday listening, I'd recommend the ATH-M50x (their sound profiles are different, particularly at bass frequencies; it's worth upgrading for that purpose). I would also suggest looking elsewhere if you don't need studio monitor headphones. The earbuds themselves are fairly well built and a little heavier than comfortable, but that's not a problem unless you have large ears and place them carefully so you don't pinch any part of your ear. You can also purchase third-party headphones that can help. The headphones are clearly designed for long listening sessions, so I found nothing more outrageous than having to adjust them every now and then. As a note; These are closed-back headphones, but they don't have a snug fit, so if you're in a shared workspace (like the library in dock times), you'll need to keep the volume down.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Makes me angry
