Updated Review: Hot but not Thunderbolt 3

I had the opportunity to fix some issues I was having with the Thunderbolt Dock. The thing definitely doesn't do anything other than USB 3.1 (USB 3.1 == USB 3.0, just renamed to a new standard). It seems to work fine on a Macbook Pro but not on a Dell XPS (with Thunderbolt 4). At Dell, this causes the devices to fail (some USB ports are not working properly). A few comments on this. Definitely great for USB 3.1 speeds, but still couldn't test Lightning Level 3 speeds. - At least on Windows 10 you will get a USB device error. You can pretty much ignore it and probably won't see it again after the first time. There must be some internal USB hardware that Windows just doesn't recognize. Again, probably due to additional internal hardware. It shouldn't happen just one connection. That's unfortunate and makes me suspicious of a high-capacity charger (e.g. Dell XPS, Macbook Pro, etc.). Runs slightly warm, not hot when on data connection only. I will get another set to connect to the docking station. But I'm not going to use them for high wattage charging anywhere around 100 watts.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
