I purchased this remote control for an existing Hunter ceiling fan that I installed in the late 90's. Installation went smoothly, and I accidentally avoided the "multiple remotes on the same circuit" issue when trying the remote for a few seconds after the fan turned on. But there were fluorescent lights in the skylight, and this unit can't dim them. I noticed the lights flickered briefly when power was restored, but didn't think much of it as they worked fine when testing the remote. BUT. When I decided to replace the CFL bulbs with incandescent bulbs I STILL couldn't dim them. After searching through the instructions that came with it to no avail, I called Hunter's support team. The support person insisted they had the fan's model number before even trying to help me (which turned out to be irrelevant to my issue) and had a lousy attitude overall. Even after I found the model number on the sticker on top of the fan housing and read it to her, she asked me to take a picture of it and email it to them. I guess my old fan had nothing to do with the zombie support script Hunter was reading, so she assumed I couldn't read the five digit model number. fan and remote control model numbers and a few photos of the fan including the product label with model and serial numbers and mailed them to Hunter who asked me to wait 1.5 hours before calling back to allow time for receiving and processing the to have email. My guess is that installing the CFLs when the remote receiver was initially turned on caused the dimmer function to automatically turn off as explained in the instructions. I suspected this meant that some manual intervention was required to restore this functionality after changing the CFL, but the instructions and the Hunter website said nothing about this. Then I remembered the section in the manual that explained how to deal with "flashing CFL lights". , and this mine flared up when it was first turned on. The instructions said to use the remote to turn the light off, then turn it on, then hold down the "fan off" button while pressing and releasing the light button twice. I was wondering if this might be the "dimmer reset" function I was looking for, so I gave it a try. No joy, but the instructions told me to do this a few times until the CFL stopped flashing, so I tried again. Viola! The dimmer suddenly started to work. If you have the same problem, don't waste your time on Hunter Support Zombies, their inadequate instructions or their website. Just do it instead.
