The original remote control for Vizio's first semi-smart TV has died. This inexpensive remote control is perfect for me.

As I tend to foolishly overspend on anything new technology the week it becomes available, I bought the first Vizio 3D TV for about ten times what it was it would cost now, assuming 3D TVs still existed when the virtual/augmented reality devices now available offer a much better experience. The original Vizio remote finally blew up about a year ago, probably because rust never sleeps and all the metal in it (including the battery contacts, which I've cleaned many times) is so rusted there's no turning back. Unlike many other remotes that claim to work with the old Vizio TVs I bought, the inexpensive Aurabeam replacement remote worked right out of the box with no issues. I can now change inputs and volume, and also view what was considered a 'smart' control pop-up when I bought the TV, all without the hassle of the very lazy me having to spend 15 minutes manually using the required remote control The remote control is easy to use for my under 11 grandchildren and doesn't understand the concept of a display device that requires the use of the analog control knob on the left side of the TV. Before I got a replacement remote, they would tap the screen, shout "Hey Google, watch Paw Patrol" and try to swipe to get to the main menu. Since the TV predates their use of the physical controls, it just doesn't fit their digital life experience. Now Vizio TV is a great display device for X-Box, DVR/DVD, Hulu, YouTube etc for my grandkids. The remote isn't made of premium materials, but it has endured being thrown, dropped, painted, used as a ray gun, and spilled on drinks by my grandchildren. Considering the cost of Aurabeam and the frustration I've had with previous replacement remotes for old Vizios that didn't work properly (if they worked at all), the purchase allowed me to save the Vizio from being thrown away because I'm so impatient like I'm lazy. Also, I could stop pacing back and forth 1,000 times an hour when the kids want to switch from X-Box to DVR, Hulu, etc. or turn up the volume.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • ill thought out
