Review on Kenmore 9990 Refrigerator Water Filter by Dee Parson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Can't beat the original (anymore)

The Sears Kenmore filter is a bit pricey, but it does the job well. It clearly outperforms other, less expensive filters. I've always used a Kenmore filter but one day I thought I'd save a few bucks, tried another cheaper brand and was extremely disappointed with the taste and quality of the water. So I switched back to the Kenmore brand filter and immediately noticed a tremendous difference in the taste and quality of the water. I will be sticking with the Kenmore filter from now on as the few bucks I saved on the cheaper brand just wasn't worth it. I'm all for saving money, but in this case it's true that you get what you pay for. If you have a Kenmore refrigerator and are looking to replace the water filter, do yourself a favor and stick with the original hardware that it came with. Update on my original review of this Kenmore fridge filter: I have purchased this filter several times in the past and have always been very happy with the water quality. Not so much anymore! I recently bought a new filter from Revain and installed it as usual. Went through about 3-4 gallons to clean the filter (as usual), I'm totally disappointed! While in the past this filter has always worked flawlessly and provided fresh clean water to taste, I am now getting water with a nasty nasty chemical taste! I'm not happy with that. I don't know what changed because this filter has always worked well for me in the past. Very dissatisfied, now I will look for a worthy replacement.
