Great budget option for boards

I've used it about 5 times already for my 10ft 5 SUP board on my old 2004 Toyota Corolla. This is a cheaper option for a roof rack. The clasp is a solid all-metal piece. The straps look ok. I drove on the freeway at speeds of up to 68 miles per hour. I had two large tractor trailers that went past my car at 60 mph and created a strong gust of wind that pushed my car but the board wouldn't budge. I have a very soft roof and when I tighten the seat belt the roof temporarily dents. I do notice the boards lifting when driving, but I suspect it's my top. If you have a new car that you're dying to keep looking pristine, fit a real roof rack if your roof isn't that soft and the dent isn't that temporary. I love that there are separate straps to tie the foam pieces to the board. It gives me something extra to hold on to when getting the board in and out of the car. I wish the instructions were a bit more detailed. I still haven't figured out the best way to thread the straps through the strap buckles that attach the foam to the board. But that's not so important, cam straps are good. Someone taught me how to use them. You thread the buckle from bottom to top. I'm sure I could figure it out through trial and error, but again, it would be nice if there was a chart. Remember to screw the belt on each side between the unit and the door - this will prevent the belt from vibrating at high speed and making a loud noise. And for extra security, tie the loose end of the strap in front of the buckle after you've fully tightened the strap (there's a YouTube video showing what I mean).

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • So far so good
