The first one had a broken mute button and something was dangling inside (probably the button itself broke off the circuit board). I made about a dozen attempts to program the buttons, but despite the green indicator, the buttons just wouldn't work. All programmed keys worked perfectly. Since the mute button was broken, I chalked it up as a defect and got a replacement. The second came, and again my first attempts to program the keys were unsuccessful. All programmed functions work, but I need a remote control that can also turn on the TV. After 50+ attempts to program the TV's power button and enter keys, I finally succeeded. This only seems to work if he gets the code right away. Every hunt will fail even though the green light is on. Holding the remotes 1 inch apart does not work. I needed to be much closer and at the perfect angle. Very disappointing and not easy to repeat. I'll keep this as I finally have the buttons to program with. I hope this is never forgotten. The rest of the remote looks pretty well built. The buttons have good tactile feedback. You can feel them click. They are not soft at all. The range is not great. Be sure to aim this directly at the device. I would give this five stars despite the range/direction limitations if the button programming was reliable and repeatable. It was such a difficult and frustrating experience that I feel entitled to deduct two stars. If you don't need this feature, I definitely recommend it as a good simple media remote for your Xbox One. Update: I opened up the remote control and removed the plastic window in front of the IR receiver/transmitter. After doing that, I was able to program the remote very easily. Whatever plastic they use seems to have a major impact on the IR receiver's ability to function properly. I used an SLA 3D printer to print a replacement using the translucent blue glass I have and it works much better than the factory window. I'm still giving a 3 star review. The manufacturer really needs to do something about this. Replacing that plastic window also seems to have improved the remote control range.
