Intermittent Problem With GM3400 3.4L

2000 Pontiac Grand Am. This fixed my intermittent problem. I would start and drive well. Maybe you go shopping on a hot day. When leaving the store, it may not start when you are ready to go home. It will roll over/start but never start the car. RPM may not be displayed at this point when attempting to start. Wait a while for the temperature to cool down and it will start normally and run normally without any problem. The easiest way for me to replace this sensor on my car was: jack up car, remove passenger tire/wheel. vehicle, turn the steering wheel fully to the left. The sensor is located in the center of the block on the side of the engine firewall, just below the plug, just above the oil pan. Be careful as there is a sensor that looks like it's a bit lower and closer to the passenger wheel. I blinded the rest, just using my hands to feel it. Remove the wiring harness. Slide a 10mm socket onto the screw. Insert the ratchet, place it on the socket and remove the bolt. After removing the screw and wire harness, rotate the sensor clockwise and counterclockwise for about 10 minutes just by loosening it. You then pull up the clock/hour counter and turn it and with a good prayer it slides out of the block without breaking inside :) The new one installs easily. Apply some engine oil to the O-ring and install it. I have never done a crank position learning procedure. I didn't have that scanner. As I thought about the learn procedure I figured I wouldn't need it if I never cranked/rotated the engine between removing and installing the new one. It has 1 screw holding it. The new one is in the same position as the old one, now it rotates every time.
