My previous electric bill was astronomical so I decided to find out how much electricity my devices were using and try to reduce my electricity consumption. use. I signed up for tiered pricing with my energy supplier, so I really need to reduce unnecessary power consumption during peak periods. Thinking this product might help because I can control the power and turn things off on a schedule or remotely, I bought a 4 pack to try. They look just like any other smart plug. They only take the place of one gang, leaving one more place vacant. The on/off switch is on the front, which has its pros and cons. I have used it in my aquariums by putting another 3 connector splitter on top of this smart connector. Since I never want to turn my aquariums off, the 3-way splitter covers the power button perfectly, preventing accidental shutdowns. It took me a little effort to add it to my TuyaSmart app, but once I got into it it worked fine. However, there is no power monitoring interface. It does a good job, but I really want it to give me some sort of graphical representation of my power usage over time. I ended up hooking them up to my home assistant with raspberry pi. tuya's home assistant integration doesn't work with power monitoring, so I had to use a custom integration that plugs into outlets locally. Once I do that, I can calculate the power consumption down to the minute. For the price, these forks served the hardware side of the purpose. It was necessary to work on the software part, but there is a solution.
