Review on CDN Pearl Red Digital Egg Timer: Perfectly Cooked Eggs Made Easy! by Nichole Long

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not as good as before

I bought a CDN TM12-B (blue model) from retail four years ago and was so impressed I bought another through Revain when the blue timer didn't more worked. But this new red timer feels a little worse designed and a little less usable. The first CDN TM12 I bought was noticeably heavier at the bottom. This is generally lighter and the center of gravity is closer to the center of the device. This makes it a bit more unstable and makes it easier to fall off on impact. On my first timer, the display was easier to read from the side/top. This timer is difficult to read when viewed at an angle greater than 35° off center. The most disappointing thing is that my first CDN TM12 had a feature where the spin mechanism that sets the time causes the time to set faster after repeated spins. Two quick spins can set the timer to 2:00 AM, but five quick spins will set it to 8:00 PM. This was useful when I wanted to time something longer than a few minutes because I could get to my target time much quicker. The new CDN TM12-R I bought from Revain doesn't work like that. Curling increases time in a constant one to one ratio regardless of the speed/consistency I may be able to spin. Setting the timer to 30-40 minutes takes noticeably longer with this new timer. However, I don't want to portray this timer as a bad product. It's well made and feels solid, although in my previous review it felt less durable than my last. The start/stop button on the top plunger is very handy when you cook with busy hands. The rotation-based timer interface is still very user-friendly and gives the timer a satisfying aesthetic. Due to the degraded quality of the device, I probably wouldn't buy one like this again or recommend it to a friend. But I don't hate him enough to replace him before he dies.
