I have used other coffee makers for single shot espresso. but only with a more or less linear pressure mechanism. It's a completely different experience! And it makes an amazing shot of espresso. The bottom line is that, like everything else, it takes some getting used to - the pumping action is a different experience, but the results are amazing. It will take time to experiment to find the right proportions for your particular coffee. I have found that a double espresso (60ml) takes about 90ml of water. You can refine these numbers until the flavor is just right. We've come a long way.
