Fan blades will break very easily.

If the device is dropped from 2 to 4 feet onto a hard surface such as vinyl tile or linoleum flooring, one or more of the fragile plastic fan blades inside the case will fracture. I had one in the car in the driver's side footwell during a long night of parking in August while waiting for the railroad staff and it tipped over. It was a hot and humid night and the previous nights I had been bitten by mosquitoes even though I had the windows open and the air conditioning on. Whenever the RR handler entered or exited the van, the bugs entered him. When the unit toppled over, I distractedly corrected it with my foot, definitely not hard, and the fan blade broke off and rattled inside the case. I couldn't believe it. The fan blades had to be protected in their housing. I just accidentally knocked one of these off the kitchen counter and it fell onto the linoleum floor. I caught it halfway, but the bottom of the device still hit the ground, but with less force than if you dropped it from a foot off the ground. The fan blade is STILL broken. It doesn't take much to break one of these blades. They shouldn't touch anything in their casing, but they'll break anyway. It would be much better if the fan blades were aluminum so they could at least be bent into place. Like fan blades, EXTREMELY brittle. Two out of three of my units have broken fan blades. Now I have a choice: either don't start the fan because it's unbalanced and slipping off any surface, or try to balance the situation by putting a sticky weight on the broken sheet, or breaking the opposite one. The fan blades are identical. Even if I could get a replacement part, I wouldn't want to replace it with an equally fragile plastic part.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
