After purchasing it, I found that it can also measure room temperature. (When the device is off, press and hold the "Mem" button on the side for 3 seconds until the "Home" icon appears on the screen, which means you are in room mode. You are back in Forehead mode.) It's nice of a cool bonus, as I'm always curious on hot summer nights how different the room temperature is between rooms. I tested it with our home thermostat and it worked! You can also easily switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius. But I bought it to take a person's temperature and I give it a thumbs up. Reading is very fast, easy button press and appears to be accurate. Just make sure it's within 1.5 inches of your forehead and press the front measurement button and you'll get an accurate reading almost instantly. This gives you a green light if the temperature range is within normal limits, or an orange and then red light if the temperature rises to an abnormal body temperature. I love the beep that tells you when you're done reading, but you can easily turn it off by pressing the mute button on the side. The instructions state that there should be at least 10 seconds between readings and the thermometer should not be held for long as it is sensitive to ambient temperature. Batteries are included (2AAA) and you place them in the bottom compartment (which should be facing up when looking at the thermometer from the front). There is also a leash although not required. For those who can't understand I've added a photo showing how to attach the leash with the battery box removed.
