Review on Dewalt 5-Inch Brushless Sander by Jerry Mangum

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Grinds very well with the included wheel, but.

In general, this is a very good price. I'm a DIY enthusiast and needed to prep an 11x15 concrete floor for epoxy paint. Peeling and sticking of previous paintwork and leftover vinyl tile was a problem. This meat grinder chewed them up efficiently and efficiently. Unfortunately. The instructions cost next to nothing. Too much English and not enough clear illustrations. There is no exploded view to show the part names. I gave it up. Other reviews discuss hacks. I didn't have to do anything. Removing the protection and attaching the case was more difficult than it needed to be. The lock nut is difficult to secure and has come loose several times during operation and braking. It was a little scary, but the wheel was still tight. I connected the dust cover to the combined vacuum cleaner and cyclone. It collected almost a full 5 gallons of dust! I am very glad that I went this way. I would clean the vacuum cleaner filter multiple times and make a mess. I've also used a portable dust collector with a 4" hose to occasionally pick up dust. The vacuum cleaner and dust collector were installed outside and I routed the hoses through the window. This kept my workplace relatively clean and dust-free. The dust cover has a retractable cover that allows very good access to edges and hard-to-reach places. This creates a lot of dust. The sliding lid has a mind of its own and kept opening up when I wanted to close it. This created a lot of unnecessary dust. A better lock could have prevented this. Silicone dust is a serious health hazard. Protect yourself. Safety: I bought a 3M full face mask. It was worth it for that and for the woodworking. I have used goggles and a half mask for this type of work, but the goggles fog up and leak and I wear contact lenses. The protective suit was superfluous. It got too hot. Hearing and knee protection required. Vibration was an issue. Even in special gloves, 75% of the hands became numb and tingled. Overall a good device for the money. A faulty shroud cap and locknut cost him 2 stars. Poor instructions only added to the offense.
