Clamps seem decent enough I've used them with 12 gauge marine 2 strand wire to make an extension for my portable making solar panel. The "crimp" part really only fits. To release the tension I proceeded to solder the wire. I used a propane point torch and lead acid solder, just heated it for a few seconds, the solder flowed normally (I love soldering that silver plated marine wire!) but my goodness if one of the clips is (black) the spring has gone haywire and now it doesn't capture anything less than 1/2 inch thick. arrrrgh.
