I installed this gate at the top of our basement stairs myself in about an hour. The instructions included a template to stick to the door frame which was great and useful but it would be even better if there were more than one so you could drill them rather than punching holes in them and removing them before drilling. . However. My biggest concern is the latch that is designed to prevent the gate from rolling down the stairs. That does not work. The gate moves right past him. I don't think I installed the small parts wrong, they just don't stick out far enough. If I'm wrong and someone can give me some insight, please contact me so I can correct it and change my rating. Because of that fact (which actually makes the gate unsafe) I only give it 3 stars. But we've had it for two weeks now and it's holding up well. I will say that it is not difficult to understand how to open it. So parents of smart kids should beware.
