Review on πŸŽ™οΈ USB Blue Snowflake Microphone by Zack Block

Really terrible stand design, short cable

Microphone with decent sound but the details are excruciating. The cable is 3 meters long, which is very short. My desktop is on the floor and I had to find a longer cable. It's one of those devices that, in 2020, still uses a mini-USB connector instead of the near-universal micro-USB. When I first received it I struggled to remove the plastic case, I had to use a screwdriver to pry it open. I think the idea is to be able to transport it with the cord being short enough that you can roll it up and put it in a suitcase, which I doubt a lot of people will do because they'll take the longer thing cable is more useful. Now for the stand case, which looks snazzy but doesn't really have a position where it would be really stable. It seems primarily designed to fit a very thin monitor or laptop screen. As I was literally typing that last sentence, this thing landed on the top edge of my (too thick) 24-inch Dell monitor and fell off. Placed on a desk it kind of adjusts, but it's too low on the desk and tends to slump forward. There is no 1/4" thread for a possible tripod mount, and the shape doesn't match any mic stand I've ever seen. The hinge was too loose and I had to get a screwdriver and tighten the screw to get it in place and Hold place. Just - bah. I ended up attaching it to the top of the monitor. Well, audio-wise, this appears to be an omni-directional mic, which is problematic. Picks up at 18" or more from your face it picks up your voice and any other sounds in the room like room echoes, street noise, etc. I would have preferred a narrow cardioid driver, if you're thinking of some kind of stand or box to set it up, turn it on and bring it closer to your mouth , it sounds so much better and the levels are so high that I turn the mic level down to about 75% Audacity. Filter to 6-7" and get decent results. And that's very good, because as I said, good luck mounting this mic on any mic stand that you can mount a pop filter on. I'm pretty sure standard mics on my Surface Pro 5 only have small holes as good or even better than this mic (and stereo), so no, I probably won't take it with me for that. My advice: get a cardioid desktop microphone that you simply mount on a small desktop tripod. I think if all you want is a mic for conference calling or voice input for Google Assistant or whatever, that'll be fine.
