I find them easier to use than a spoon in which you melt the wax pellets. You have a wick that you light, turn the wand aside, and let the wax drip onto the poultice in a circular motion. The wax dries quickly (2-3 minutes) so do not use near a fan. You can light 2 sticks at the same time and mix the colors of the wax. Because it uses a wick, it gives the wax a slightly black color. I like it, I think it looks more authentic and helps the stamp stand out better. The wick catches fire easily, cools quickly and dries quickly, so you can quickly put the wax stick back in your pocket. The colors are beautiful and bright. I'm still learning how to use it, so don't blame the photos on the stamps - I just included them to show the color.
